Prelude

The object arrived from deep space and time occluding the ancient light from stars and planets, a mere hint of something glimpsed by many, but understood by few.  It decelerated at an impossible rate taking up a geostationary orbit relative to the Earth, exactly 24,600 nautical miles from the equator.  And then it did nothing.  And every second it sat out there, motionless, dark, silent, someone down below went nuts.

And so it started .......
