Realisation

2

“She loves me yeah, yeah, yeah,
She loves me yeah, yeah, yearrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ,,,,,”
I flung the pillow with all my weight behind it, and the ancient clock radio tumbled to the floor crackling and sparking as if it were inhabited by a ghost.  Love the Beatles, but not at six o’clock in the morning, and a Saturday one at that.
I dragged myself into the shower, scraped a three-day growth off my face, never once managing to focus either eye, the result of ingesting way too much good stuff the evening before.
Getting dressed was a monster battle, my pants and belt fought me to the very end, until I realized I was trying to get into my jeans back-the-front.
Once I sorted out my treacherous clothing, I slumped on the bed, trying to remember why I had set the alarm in the first place.
Oh! Yes! I was the Duty Officer for the weekend, being punished again for having made a professional mistake the week before.  I had tried to have my boss killed.
Well, not really, I had only set out to scare the crap out of her, self-centered little bit… , well, she didn’t necessarily talk highly of me either.  Something to do with unrequited love, I suspect, as in she didn’t get any, and I was clearly recognized as the stud of choice in the office!
A loud buzzing assaulted my ears, and I tried to focus on the general direction it seemed to be coming from.
Then an even louder beeping started, and I slowly came to realize it was my phone, and it wanted me badly!
Scrabbling around in the blankets, the little box of magic finally popped up, wrapped in the folds of dubious material that looked suspiciously like my underwear.
“Hello?”
“Jonathon, where are you?”
“Here.”
“Well, not to put too finer point on it, you need to get in here as fast as you can.”
“OK, on my way.”  Well, the words registered, but my befuddled Mind was still trying to process the outcome of the fight with my pants, so getting anywhere may well turn out to be beyond my present capacity.
Small doable bits.  Little steps.  I distinctly remember someone telling me that somewhere; eat the elephant one bite at a time.
I looked down at my feet, and immediately wished I hadn’t, my head started to spin, and a loud buzzing noise started to ring in my ears, and I almost fell over.  Socks were out, open toe sandals were the only option under the circumstances.  Then my phone lit up again, with a sense of purpose that was literally frightening to witness in my tender condition.  I slid my finger over the “unlock” icon, and a face swam into view.
“Yes?”
“Jonathon, I have a car outside your apartment, get in it now!” the witch Queen barked, and as the screen blanked out, I realized that something must be going on in a big way for her to actually be in the office on a weekend, and then actually make a call to me personally.
I found my sandals, forced my feet into them.
Found the door, and wrestled with the lock.
Found the elevator, pushed both buttons, waited an eternity for the door to open, then let it carry me forty-five floors down to the lobby.
The sudden change in air pressure made my ears pop, and a massive headache started to form behind my eyes.
Focused on the huge glass doors at the edge of the pavement, I sucked in as much air as I could find, then walked with as much pride as I could muster under the circumstances past the concierge, head up, shoulders straight, gut sucked in, only to be foiled by the ridiculous handles on the bloody doors!
A short fight later I was outside, looking into a black hole posing as the back seat of the limo.  I fell in, the driver closed the door, and I’m glad to say I managed to sleep right up to the end.
Just as well I did, because when I got out of the elevator and stutter-stepped to my office, around me all Hell was breaking loose.  People believed to have been sitting dead for years in their chairs and offices were flying around the place clutching electronic pads and small computers, yelling at each other.  The big board, the one unifying technology in a place with more bells and whistles that a NASA control room was flashing data and images so fast I could actually read them in my diminished state.
It’s amazing just how fast fear can sober you up, and I distinctly remember the transition from fog to clarity, it was like an atomic explosion behind my eyes, creating a heat wave through my frontal cortex.
“Faa………..out!” I yelled, ET is here!”
Wait a minute, if those numbers were to be trusted, and that was the business I was in, the impossible had happened.
A mass one-sixth the size of the moon had decelerated from what looked like five hundred times the speed of light to zero in less than one hundred thousand kilometers.
With no flare or infrared signature.
No change in the Doppler shift.
None.
With no detectable mass.
Zero energy output – at least what we could detect.
There goes E=MC2 and possibly F = M A.
A bubble of nothing from somewhere was now in a geostationary orbit over the equator, and the only way we could see it was by the light it occluded from the star fields!
And it had been completely undetected until it had passed the rings of Saturn, occluding the light from that massive wonder.
European astronomers saw it first, thought their very elaborate and expensive equipment had developed Alzheimer’s.
The Hubble had tracked its impossible entry into Earth orbit, albeit only the last few thousand kilometers, and then only by mathematical calculations done back on earth from the real-time images sent by the telescope.  The numbers were Mind bending in their complexity and inference.
Science as we knew it was dead.
I had a rare insight into the future.
Was God dead too?

Prelude

The object arrived from deep space and time occluding the ancient light from stars and planets, a mere hint of something glimpsed by many, but understood by few.  It decelerated at an impossible rate taking up a geostationary orbit relative to the Earth, exactly 24,600 nautical miles from the equator.  And then it did nothing.  And every second it sat out there, motionless, dark, silent, someone down below went nuts.
And so it started .......

Soul plus Future equals generational growth

Three days ago a great friend of mine came up with the words "Soul and Future". He located these words with respect to a great idea he has, about creating a meeting place with the ambience of a bar, but the conversation of a church. To me, this is one of the most powerful suggestions I have experienced in dealing with the intersect of Science and Religion.
So the very first question you might ask is, "can you have a Soul, if you are not religious?" Lets look at the definition of "Soul".
soul (sl)
n.
1. The animating and vital principle in humans, credited with the faculties of thought, action, and emotion and often conceived as an immaterial entity.
2. The spiritual nature of humans, regarded as immortal, separable from the body at death, and susceptible to happiness or misery in a future state.
3. The disembodied spirit of a dead human.
4. A human: "the homes of some nine hundred souls" (Garrison Keillor).
5. The central or integral part; the vital core: "It saddens me that this network ... may lose its soul, which is after all the quest for news" (Marvin Kalb).
6. A person considered as the perfect embodiment of an intangible quality; a personification: I am the very soul of discretion.
7. A person's emotional or moral nature: "An actor is ... often a soul which wishes to reveal itself to the world but dare not" (Alec Guinness).
8. A sense of ethnic pride among Black people and especially African Americans, expressed in areas such as language, social customs, religion, and music.
9. A strong, deeply felt emotion conveyed by a speaker, a performer, or an artist.
10. Soul music.

3. the essential part or fundamental nature of anything

8. an inspiring spirit or leading figure, as of a cause or movement
the life and soul See life [28]
10. a person regarded as typifying some characteristic or quality the soul of discretion
11. a person; individual an honest soul
upon my soul! an exclamation of surprise
[Old English sāwol; related to Old Frisian sēle, Old Saxon sēola, Old High German sēula soul]
soul-like adj

Soul [səʊl]
n
(Christian Religious Writings / Theology) Christian Science another word for God

Collins English Dictionary – Complete and Unabridged © HarperCollins Publishers 1991, 1994, 1998, 2000, 2003

If you did a word count, religion would win the day 98 to 2.

All this from the Farlex Free Dictionary!!! Then almost buried right down the very bottom of the entry, you find this .....

soul - the immaterial part of a person; the actuating cause of an individual life

And away we go!!! ....."the actuating cause of an individual Life".

I believe that your Soul is the Sum of all that you are - good and bad, bright and dull, creative and boring. Just as a Man is judged by what he does in Life, so does a Soul capture all that is uniquely "you" - all the way through your Life, in every facet and endeavour.

I also believe in Universal Consciousness - where what I am thinking at any given time radiates out and connects with like Minds. After all, thinking is using Energy, and all Energy is irrevocably connected. And you group yourself with like-Minded people, it's what we do.

The word "Future" is a little simpler to deal with

future
noun
1. time to come, hereafter, what lies ahead He made plans for the future.
2. prospect, expectation, outlook She has a splendid future in the police force.
adjective
forthcoming, to be, coming, later, expected, approaching, to come, succeeding, fated, ultimate, subsequent, destined, prospective, eventual, ensuing, impending, unborn, in the offing the future King and Queen
forthcoming late, former, past, previous, preceding, erstwhile, bygone, quondam, ex-
in (the) future after this, in times to come I asked her to be more careful in future.
Quotations
"I never think of the future. It comes soon enough" [Albert Einstein]

Collins Thesaurus of the English Language – Complete and Unabridged 2nd Edition. 2002 © HarperCollins Publishers 1995, 2002

Almost a linear definition, all about the "time to come".

When you combine the two words by their definition, you get something like ""the actuating cause of an individual Life.... in the time to come".
And now we have something to work with.
You can have a Soul even if you are not religious, you in fact have a Soul, and it is collecting everything about you 24/7/52, win, lose, or draw.
And the future is all about change, without which there can be no progress.
So when Mike lets loose with his great idea, get your Soul involved, and lend your weight to the future of Humanity.
You can make a difference, and you do count. Bet your Soul on it.

The Spin on Things

Every week a friend of mine half way around the world swap stories and articles of interest. At present we are pursing laminar flow, black holes, and the mind-blowing behaviour of particulate matter.
In thinking about how to communicate an idea I have, I started to experiment with tennis ball - throwing it in different ways to achieve different aspects of flight - straight ball, sinker, curve, etc.
Then I had a session with one of the young golfers I coach, and watching him hit wedges reminded me of all the times I've heard the term, "geared effect".
This relates specifically to the angle of the club face at the point of impact, and the direction of the shear forces acting through the face of the club against the surface of the ball.
Could it, I murmured to myself, be something to consider with particulate motion and laminar flow?
What could be "imparting" the energy required to create the "spin" motion and thus part of the momentum (vector) to the particle? How would you describe the surface / impact point?
I'm still thinking about it all, particularly as it might apply in a vacuum.
Anyone care to help me out here?

Mind over Matter, and Matter that does (matter!)

I had the experience of working with a floor full of "Gen X" executives recently, and it was an experience I won't soon forget.
Supposedly, "Gen X'ers" come out of the egg expecting to run companies, earn $100k in their first year out of collage, and be mobile enough to have had at least five senior executive jobs by the time they turn 25 - and an attention span of less than 3 seconds!
What surprised me the most was they were all clearly focussed on metrics, specifically any metric that involved an assessment of their personal performance.
On a number of occasions I witnessed someone deliberately position themselves before their company, clearly believing that they could survive, but the company may or may not, and in any case, ti didn't really matter to them one way or another.
This somewhat ruthless attitude was completely foreign to me, having been brought up in the era where your loyalty to your company came only after that to your family.
But what really took me by surprise was their attitude to information.
Everything had to be "dot points", with the key elements first, and everything else relegated to the back - which never got read.
Now, to me, context is everything. As a negotiator, facilitator, and mediator, finding the "win-win" position is critical, and you usually can't achieve this if you do not deeply research the background and context to the discussion from everyone's point of view.
However, business is what business is, and as I see the outcome of this different style of thinking, I start to understand why younger people are obsessed with social media.
It is the great diversion from having to deal with reality!
I've suggested this before in another forum - for one weekend, get everyone in your family to turn off their phones, Ipads, computers, WII's, TV's, Ipods, everything electronic.
Have conversations, not stutter points. Relate to each other. Go for a walk. Visit someone. Do things together. Look back a little, from where you have come from, rather than race towards a diminishing future.
And use your Mind more - read, debate, discuss, create, prove you are a human being and not the willing slave of some piece of technology.
Well, what have you got to lose? A million "friends" on facebook?
On the other hand, you might just generate a relationship that will support you for the rest of your Life!

Standing Tall

Professional tennis players will tell you their secret, if asked nicely. Professional footballers will tell you the same thing, as will elite athletes, race car drivers, and most anyone who has ever visited "the zone" - that special place where absolute performance takes place.
What is it about "the zone" that makes so much difference?
Well, its a mental thing. Your Mind produces the blitzing performance that, on the day, providing it is the best blitzing performance, makes you the winner.
In many sports and competitions, your ability to influence your competition is limited, or zero. All you can do to make them worry about you is perform better than they do.
Even in some team sports, it is hard to put the other side off balance unless you are winning by such a margin they mentally give up the chase.
So what performance excellence comes down to is being the best - doing your best - at the critical time that enables you to win the competition.
But you can't always do that - the forces of evil - distractions, important things, confused thinking, tiredness - can make it hard to perform on the day, the way you need to.
So you need to ask the tennis pro what the secret is.
And if they are honest, they will tell you that when they are in "the zone", the ball seems bigger, travels slower, they see it earlier, it feels "warm", and they feel as if they are taller, looking down a little.
I had an experience yesterday that made me remember all that I had forgotten about stress management, and performance.
I forgot the golden rule - if you really, really want something, you have to be prepared to let it go. I tried too hard, didn't relax and let my ears do the work, and suffered the consequences.
And at no time did I feel taller.
When you find yourself in a similar situation, it is not the end - just the beginning. First you have to recognise you are mildly stressed, then you have to deal with it. If you go to a much earlier blog here and find the chapter on Stress in Orbit, you will find a lot of simple, fast acting techniques for stress management. Circular breathing is the one I should have used yesterday, because then I would have regained my ability to think quickly and listen and analyse before entering the verbal fray.
However, it was a great learning experience, and this blog has eventuated because of it, so something good and worthwhile is what we now have.
Think strong, stand tall, pull your shoulders back, take a deep breath, and above all, be positive.
You can do it, and you will.

Light in the darkest of times

In the last 120 days the Earth has taken a massive toll on our confidence and comfort.
Floods, bushfires, cyclones ands earthquakes in the southern hemisphere, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis in the northern.
Tens of thousands of people missing, dead, displaced, or just discombobulated.
You cannot turn on the TV without some talking head or other babbling on about the social or economic consequences.
Yet, in the midst of all this misery, two young musicians are rising above themselves and producing a CD called "From our Heart to your Heart", the proceeds from which will go to the Young Heart Foundation, to support children unlucky enough to need such massive surgery so early in their lives.
Here are the two playing a piano concerto, and then a cello piece, both of which will be on the CD.
